The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana@50 Secretariat,
Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby is urging public spirited
individuals and organisations to help institutionalise
Joy FM’s ‘Easter Soup Kitchen’ as a national charity
event.
Speaking at the 10th edition of the Easter Soup Kitchen,
currently underway at the Efua Sutherland Park, commonly
called the Children’s Park, Dr. Wereko-Brobby said
charity was indeed a worthy cause worth pursuing for
national cohesion.
“Charity is a very important part of the growth and
development of every nation and it is important that
those who have, make it possible for those that are less
off to feel that they are part of the society.”
The Joy Fm Easter Soup Kitchen is part of the station’s
corporate social responsibility where thousands of
society’s needy and homeless from all walks of life are
fed and clothed yearly.
They are also given medical attention, offered
counselling on various issues and voluntarily screened
for AIDS, where they are again counselled by experts.
They are also treated to music from Joy FM’s DJ’s at the
grounds.

For 10 years management and staff of Joy FM supported by
other institutions and individuals have been
volunteering to bring smiles on the faces of the less
privileged in society.
The event this year received a ¢500 million boost from
the Ghana@50 Secretariat to ensure it is replicated
nationwide in all the 10 regional capitals.
But Dr. Wereko-Brobby said it should not be a one-off
national event.
Expressing gratitude to the station for a “wonderful
demonstration of
public commitment” to a worthy cause and the joy of the
Ghana@50 Secretariat’s association with the event, he
said the spirit of the Joy Soup Kitchen must live on
after Ghana@100.
He said it is “Important that we do not just talk about
compassion for the poor but contribute to easing the
suffering of the poor.”
He therefore urged individuals and the corporate
community to support the programme so the less
privileged can look up to succeeding years with renewed
faith in themselves and in the country.
Currently thousands of the needy and homeless are being
entertained.
