U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson will attend a Group of 20 finance ministers' meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, in mid-November during a broader African visit, the Treasury Department said on Thursday.
Paulson, just back from India, plans to meet with business and government members to discuss how the international financial community can contribute to regional growth.
The Treasury said Paulson also wants to highlight conservation efforts in Africa and discuss how that can complement economic growth.
The U.S. Treasury chief will be in Tanzania on November 15 for a discussion on financial integration in East Africa, then travels to Cape Town, South Africa, where he speaks before a U.S.-Africa business summit on November 16.
Paulson attends meetings of G20 finance ministers and central bankers November 17-18. The G20 represents about two-thirds of the world's population and includes countries that account for 90 percent of total global economic output.
Paulson will stop in Ghana on November 19 where he is scheduled to take part in a meeting with private-sector financial leaders on development of the financial sector in West Africa.
