Burundi Réalités (Bujumbura) NEWS In an exclusive interview with the East African Business Weekly, Burundi president Mr. Nkurunziza announced that Burundi is planning to move its capital city to Gitega, a city located in centre of the country in the province of the same name. According to Mr. Nkurunziza, Gitega's central location makes an ideal place to better serve the majority of the Burundi population. Gitega is the country's second biggest city after Bujumbura. In terms of political representation, the province of Gitega accounts for the largest number of parliamentary seats. It is also heavily represented in the government. President Pierre Nkurunziza made the announcement during a ceremony in which Dr. Manuel Tigerino, president of the Latin University of Theology awarded him an honorary doctorate degree in theology. |
